Coordinator of the ADMK Workers’ Rights Retrieval Committee O. Panneerselvam on Friday (December 5, 2025) said he had conveyed to Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah, during his recent visit to New Delhi, that the AIADMK must “recapture its old glory and strength”.

Speaking to reporters on the Marina after paying homage to the AIADMK’s former general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on her 9th death anniversary, Mr. Panneerselvam, who held thrice the post of Chief Minister, reiterated that he had discussed with Mr. Shah the overall political situation in the State.

As for his next move, he said it would be in tune with the aspirations of volunteers of the organisation. To another query, he denied that he had planned to establish a new political party.

‘No return to NDA’

AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran told journalists that “so long as [AIADMK general secretary] Edappadi K. Palaniswami remains the candidate [of the National Democratic Alliance] for the post of Chief Minister, there is no chance of my party joining the NDA.” Replying to a question raised by journalists, he pointed out that while taking a pledge at the mausoleum of Jayalalithaa, he and his colleagues had vowed that they would strive hard for the “defeat of betrayal” in the Assembly polls.

Was there any plan on his part to meet Mr. Shah? “No,” replied Mr. Dhinakaran, who added that “definitely, they [the BJP] will not invite me.”
