At least five engineering students died in an accident on National Highway 16 near Chilakaluripet in Nadendla police station limits in Palnadu district around 7 p.m. on Thursday. While four died at the spot, another died at the hospital. A total of six students were travelling in the car that met with the accident.
Superintendent of Police B. Krishna Rao told The Hindu that as per the preliminary reports, the deceased were students of Vignan Engineering College and were going towards Vinukonda from Guntur.
The SP said the car hit a trailer, which was going in front of their vehicle. He said the police have been trying to trace the identities of the deceased and contact their parents. The SP added that some of the students were in Ayyappa Deeksha.
