The Ernakulam district manifesto of the United Democratic Front (UDF) released here on Wednesday (December 3, 2025) gives thrust to waste management, tourism, and public transportation sectors.

The manifesto, released by UDF convener Adoor Prakash, promises to make the district ‘waste-free’ through the adoption of modern technologies. Waste treatment plants will be set up in uninhabited lands. Solid waste will be collected in a scientific manner from panchayats, and it will be processed in those plants, it said.

The manifesto proposes a mobility hub in Kakkanad under a project to be implemented by the district panchayat. The aim is to streamline and strengthen public transport in rural areas. The ‘Grama Vandi’ service project will be launched by utilising funds available under the three-tier panchayats to improve rural connectivity.

In the tourism sector, the manifesto suggests district-level tourism fairs, food fests, strengthening of the homestay system, and stepping up basic infrastructure in tourist destinations. To tackle stray dog menace, the manifesto proposes the expansion of animal birth control initiatives, and improving the functioning of such centres in Mulanthuruthy and Vadavucode regions.

The manifesto also promises a special assistance project under grama panchayats for dialysis patients. Free chemotherapy services will be offered in district hospitals. The Government District Hospital in Aluva will be elevated to a multi-speciality facility.

The other projects include setting up ability centres for the welfare of the differently abled, centres and parks for the welfare of the elderly, open gyms and fitness centres for women in panchayats, project to check the entry of wild animals into human habitations using artificial intelligence, improvement of agri farms in the district, multi-purpose sports courts in panchayats, and upgrading facilities in government schools.
