Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that surveys had been sanctioned for preparation of DPRs for new lines between Machilipatnam and Narsapur (74 km), Repalle and Bapatla (46 km), Gudur and Vijayawada (4th line measuring 293 km), and Vijayawada bypass (Indupalli-Duggirala – 49 km) to improve connectivity in the region.

Apart from this, a survey for construction of a 45.30-km-long new railway line between Machilipatnam and Repalle had been sanctioned to provide direct and shorter connectivity between the two towns.

“The survey is underway for the sake of preparation of a DPR,” he said in reply to a question asked by Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashowry.

The Union Minister said Machilipatnam and Repalle were already connected via Vijayawada Junction on the existing railway network, and the doubling of Machilipatnam-Gudivada-Vijayawada line had been completed recently, and it would improve the connectivity to Machilipatnam port.

Mr. Vaishnaw said, as on April 1, 2025, 39 projects (12 new lines and 27 doubling), covering a total length of 4,498 km falling fully / partly in Andhra Pradesh and costing approximately ₹70,231 crore, had been sanctioned. Of them, 1,179-km of lines had been commissioned and an expenditure of ₹28,039 crore incurred up to March 2025.
