Bike rally taken out in Mandya to create awareness on Krishi Mela

A bike and bicycle rally was taken out in Mandya on December 3 to spread awareness about the Krishi Mela, scheduled to be held at V.C. farm in Mandya from December 5 to 7.

Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Mandya, K.R. Nandini, Chief Executive Officer of Mandya Zilla Panchayat, and Mallikarjun Baladandi, Superintendent of Mandya district police, were present when the rally was flagged off at the Zilla Panchayat office. It concluded at V.C. farm in the University of Agricultural Sciences.

Flagging off the rally, Mr. Kumar called upon farmers to take full advantage of the Mela, which is being organised by the University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya.

He said the Mela is a meaningful programme aimed at providing farmers with information on innovation and technological use in agriculture. “Agriculture is the backbone of the nation, and the country develops only when agriculture progresses. At this Krishi Mela, new technologies and new crop varieties will be showcased,” he said while urging farmers to participate in the fair.

Ms. Nandini said that the bike and cycle rally had been organised to create awareness among farmers about the Mela. 

The objective of the rally was to inform people about how to strengthen agricultural vitality and how it will benefit them. Awareness is being spread about how sustainable agriculture can be achieved through integrated farming and the use of new technologies, she added.

She said that farmers as well as the general public can participate in the Mela and benefit from it.

Women from National Rural Livelihood Mission self-help groups from five districts will set up more than 50 stalls at the fair, selling various products, she added.

Mr. Baladandi said that this is the first time a Krishi Mela is being organised after the University of Agricultural Sciences was established in Mandya. 

At the Mela, many agricultural scientists will introduce different crop varieties. He urged young people to make good use of the opportunity.

Harini Kumar, Special Officer of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya, said that farmers from different districts including Kodagu, Mysuru, and Chamarajanagar will participate in the Mela.

“Sustainable development can be achieved through integrated farming, and farmers should prioritise this approach. The fair will provide information on how to earn income through proper agricultural methods. A farmer–scientist interaction programme has also been organised,” she said, urging more farmers to participate in the event and benefit from it.

Ashok, Joint Director of the Agriculture Department, Roopashree, Joint Director of the Horticulture Department, and others were also present on the occasion.
