Medical students should come forward to serve the poor by working in the government health sector after completing their education, said Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav.
Participating as the chief guest at the Freshers’ Day programme for 2025 batch at Dr. Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Foundation at Chinavutapalli in Krishna district on Monday (December 1, 2025) the Minister recalled how his sister wanted him to become a doctor and how he became the Health Minister instead.
He noted with concern that in a profession, that receives utmost respect from people, values are declining. The Minister urged medical students to study hard with dedication. Doctors will be respected only when they work with values of humanity and service, he said.
Later, the Minister criticised the YSRCP government, stating that many of the government medical colleges inaugurated with great publicity were left with inadequate facilities. Out of the sanctioned ₹8,500 crore, the previous government spent only ₹1,550 crore, he said.
Unlike the previous government, the TDP-led NDA government has prioritised improving infrastructure, he said, adding that it is due to this that the government has proposed the Public Private Partnership model to run medical colleges.
