1. Karnataka leadership tussle: Round Two of breakfast meeting between CM, DCM on December 2

After both leaders agreed to refrain from making statements on the power-sharing in the State, round-two of breakfast meeting between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy D.K. Shivakumar is to be held on December 2, this time at the latter’s residence in Bengaluru.

Mr. Shivakumar termed the breakfast meeting with Mr Siddaramaiah as a matter “between brothers”, stressing that there was no groupism within the Congress government. In the first round of breakfast meeting held at the CM’s residence on November 29, the two leaders had agreed to abide by the decision taken by central leaders on the power-sharing and the rotational CM’s post.

2. Fissures resurface in Puttur units of BJP

With two-and-a-half years remaining for the next Assembly elections in Karnataka, fissures have resurfaced in the Puttur city and rural units of the BJP. Hindutva activist Arun Kumar Puthila, the rebel candidate who pushed the saffron party to the third position in Puttur in the last Assembly elections, has hinted that if his supporters wished, there could be a repeat of the 2023 polls.

After the BJP denied a ticket to Mr. Puthila in the last Assembly election, he contested as an independent candidate paving the way for the victory of Congress candidate Ashok Kumar Rai in Puttur. Mr. Rai polled 66,607 votes (about 39.51% of 1,68,542 total votes polled), Mr. Puthila secured 62,458 (about 37.06%) votes, and Asha Thimmappa of the BJP polled 37,558 (about 22.28%) votes.

3. Rohingya refugee and rape victim lives in fear in Bengaluru

A 20-year-old domestic help, who is a Rohingya refugee and mother of two minor children, was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Bengaluru at knife point on November 9. She is now living in fear as the accused and their family are allegedly threatening them to withdraw the complaint.

The woman, who has been living in Bengaluru for the last five years with her husband, a ragpicker, and two minor children, told The Hindu that the accused and his family members were offering ₹5 lakh to withdraw the case, failing which they have threatened to kill her.

4. 40 taken into custody as police stop rally by youth seeking jobs

The Hubballi-Dharwad Police on December 1, 2025, stopped a protest rally planned by unemployed youth in Dharwad as the organisers had not sought permission through the proper channel and that there were clear indications that they were planning to disrupt daily life.

Officers took around 40 youth into custody and closed down coaching centres that they thought were behind the rally. The Janasamanara Vedike had called for a protest rally in Dharwad, demanding that the State government to fill vacant posts in government departments and relax upper age limit.
