Government urged to exempt old teachers from APTET

Andhra Pradesh Teachers Federation State vice president D. Eswara Rao on Sunday urged the government to exempt existing serving government teachers from the AP Teachers Eligibility Test (APTET). He noted that the teachers were posted long ago after clearing the B.Ed and District Selection Committee examinations.

Speaking to the media, he said that recently the Supreme Court had directed all State governments to ensure TET qualification for all teachers recruited before 2010. He said that the association has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court and has urged the State government to approach the court and seek exemption for the teachers from TET examination.

He said that majority of the teachers have acquired vast experience in the last two decades and there was no need for a new academic test.

Mr. Eswara Rao urged the Union government to make necessary changes in the Right to Education Act-2009 and other related guidelines so that the teachers appointed before 2010 would get relief from TET qualification.
