Widespread rain with light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on Friday (November 28, 2025) under the influence of the cyclonic storm Ditwah over coastal Sri Lanka and adjoining south west Bay of Bengal.
The intensity of rain is very likely to increase gradually over the next two days. The coverage of rain would decrease gradually from December 1, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). An orange alert has been issued for south Andhra coast apart from north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The coverage and intensity of rain is expected to increase becoming light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very rainfall at isolated places on November 29, 2025 and heavy to very heavy at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on November 30 over south coastal Andhra Pradesh.
It would then decrease gradually becoming light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on December 1, 2025 and heavy rainfall at isolated places over south coastal Andhra Pradesh on December 2, 2025.
Rayalaseema: Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely on November 28, 2025. Thereafter, it is very likely to increase becoming light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very rainfall at isolated places on November 29 and heavy to very heavy at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on November 30. It would then decrease gradually becoming light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places on December 1.
Meanwhile, the cyclonic storm Ditwah over coastal Sri Lanka and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with the speed of 10 km/hr, and lay centred about 40 km southeast Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 100 km northwest of Batticaloa (Sri Lanka), 320 km south-southeast of Puducherry and 530 km south of Chennai, on Friday morning (November 28, 2025).
It is very likely to continue to move north-northwestwards across Sri Lanka coast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal and reach over southwest Bay of Bengal near North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by early morning of November 30.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 35-45 km/hr gusting to 55 km/hr is prevailing over west central bay and along and off south Andhra Pradesh coast. It is very likely to increase becoming squally winds speed reaching 50-60 km/hr gusting to 70 km/hr from November 28 evening and gale wind with speed reaching 60-70 km/hr, gusting to 80 km/hr from November 29 evening till November 30 morning.
Thereafter, it is likely to decrease becoming squally wind speed reaching 50-60 km/hr, gusting to 70 km/hr on December 1 morning and 45-55 km/hr gusting to 65 km/hr by December 1 evening.
Moderate to rough sea conditions are prevailing. It is likely to become rough to very rough from November 28 evening and high from December 29 evening till November 30. Thereafter, it is likely to improve gradually on December 1 morning.
Fishermen Warning:
Total suspension of fishing operations is advised in coastal areas of Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts till December 1.
Those out at sea should avoid southwest Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar, Comorin area and along and off Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, south Andhra Pradesh and Sri Lanka coasts; adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal till December 1 and Southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, Maldives and along and off Kerala coast till November 30.
