Two Trinamool Congress workers were killed in West Bengal’s Malda district’s Kaliachak area as violence gripped the region and tensions rose. One worker was stabbed to death on Thursday (November 27, 2025) morning, and another worker’s body was found with bullet injuries on Tuesday (November 25). In a third incident, a roadside food vendor was also killed in gun violence in the same Kaliachak area.

There was heavy police deployment in the area to control the violence and related tension. In 48 hours, three violent deaths in Kaliachak sparked panic among locals.

TMC worker Ekramul Sheikh was reportedly stabbed to death on Thursday at a kangaroo court meeting in Kaliachak. A video of the killing went viral on social media where two groups were seen chasing each other with sharp objects as violence erupted.

“The violence erupted when they were all participating in a kangaroo court session in the community. Many of them attacked him, he was all alone,” the wife of the deceased TMC worker said. She claimed that the dispute stemmed from land and cultivation related issues.

A TMC worker told media persons that the group that attacked them were also TMC workers and it was an incident of party in-fighting.

However, local TMC leaders claimed that it was a case of household feud with no political angle.

Police have detained at least 10 people in relation to the death. They are still searching for the prime accused.

In another incident in Kaliachak, Wabaidulla Khan (32), a TMC worker and a coal trader and brick-kiln owner went missing on Monday and his body was later found near a mango farm on Tuesday. Police suspect he was murdered as he was found with a severe injury on the back of his head and a bullet injury mark. However, police have not confirmed the cause of death.

“TMC rule is getting over, so they have started fighting. TMC is now killing TMC. Look at last 3 years data, the number of TMC workers who have died is very high,” Bharatiya Janta Party West Bengal state president Samik Bhattacharya said while commenting the deaths.

The repeated incidents has raised questions about security and the role of police in the area.

Violence has gripped these parts of Malda district on multiple other occasions. On January 2, 2025, TMC councillor and vice-president of the party’s district unit, Dulal Sarkar, was shot dead in broad daylight by unidentified assailants.

Another TMC worker, Ataul Haque alias Hasu Sheikh, was shot dead in Kaliachak on January 14, 2025, and two other workers sustained serious injuries.
