Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates Indian space start-up Skyroot Aerospace’s new Infinity Campus via video conference and unveils Vikram-I, the company’s first orbital launch vehicle capable of placing satellites into orbit, in New Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (November 27, 2025) said India is witnessing an unprecedented opportunity in the space sector on the back of its transformation over the past six to seven years into an open, cooperative and innovation-driven ecosystem that saw the private sector taking flight.
With the country’s space capability cost-effective and reliable, the world has high expectations. Global companies want to manufacture satellites, avail launch services and seek technology partnerships with India, he said, urging stakeholders to make the most of the opportunity.
The global space economy is set to grow manifold, representing a very significant opportunity for India’s youth, Mr. Modi said, inaugurating Skyroot’s Infinity Campus in Hyderabad via video conference. He also unveiled the spacetech startup’s first orbital rocket, Vikram-I – which is capable of launching satellites to orbit. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy participated in the event.
Noting that the country is witnessing an unprecedented growth opportunity in the space sector, the Prime Minister said when the government opened the sector, the youth, especially the Gen-Z generation, came forward to take full advantage and more should make use of the opportunity. More than 300 space startups were giving new hopes to India’s space future, he added.
Attractive destination for investors
Resources may be a constraint but their determination pushes the startups to aspire for new heights, a spirit that has triggered the private space revolution in India. Gen-Z engineers, designers, coders and scientists are creating new technologies, be it in propulsion systems, composite materials, rocket stages or satellite platforms. India’s youth are now working in areas that were unimaginable just a few years ago. India’s private space talent is establishing a distinct identity across the world, and the country’s space sector is becoming an attractive destination for global investors.
Wishing Skyroot founders, Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka, he said the two young entrepreneurs are an inspiration for countless young space entrepreneurs. “Both of them trusted themselves, did not shy away from taking risks and as a result the entire nation is witnessing their success today, with the country feeling proud of them,” the Prime Minister said.
On the measures the government initiated, he said historic reforms were undertaken in India’s space sector, with the government opening it to private innovation and launching a new Space Policy. The expansion of the sector was also imperative as it had become the foundation for communication, agriculture, marine monitoring, urban planning, weather prediction and national security. The government also took efforts to connect startups and industry with innovation, established IN-SPACe to provide ISRO’s facilities and technology to startups. At the foundation of this journey was the work undertaken by ISRO for decades that gave new wings to India’s space journey.
India now moving towards opening the nuclear sector
The changes witnessed in the space sector are part of a broader startup revolution taking place in India. The scope of reforms is continuously expanding and just as space innovation was opened to the private sector, India is now moving towards opening the nuclear sector as well. A strong role for the private sector is being envisaged, which will create opportunities in small modular reactors, advanced reactors and nuclear innovation. This reform will give new strength to India’s energy security and technological leadership, he said.
Hailing the new wave of startups and the Gen-Z generation, he said India is the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem and home to more than 1.5 lakh registered startups. The Government stands firmly with every young person, startup, scientist, engineer and entrepreneur.
Skyroot’s Infinity Campus is a 2 lakh sq. ft. workspace for designing, developing, integrating and testing multiple launch vehicles, with a capacity to build one orbital rocket every month. In November 2022, it had launched sub-orbital rocket, Vikram-S, thus becoming the first Indian private company to launch a rocket to space, the PMO said in a release.
