The Andhra Pradesh Government has announced the setting up of a 1 Gigawatt (GW) data centre by Digital Connexion, a joint venture of Reliance Industries, Brookfield and Digital Realty, in Visakhapatnam at an investment of ₹98,000 crore by 2030. The MoU for the project has been signed with the AP Economic Development Board (APEDB) on Wednesday, according to an official release.
The proposed complex would be built to global standards and feature high-density AI-ready racks, dedicated power substations, redundant power feeds, and robust connectivity to support hyper-scalers, enterprise clients, cloud services, and future AI workloads.
The State government would extend full support for the project’s seamless execution, which includes facilitating the allocation of 400 acres of land, expediting regulatory and environmental clearances, ensuring uninterrupted power supply, connectivity, and other essential infrastructure.
The investment by Reliance and its global partners strengthens A.P.’s long-term vision of transforming the State into a national hub for AI, cloud infrastructure, and technology-driven growth. It reinforces the government’s commitment to building a future-ready digital economy that empowers investors, industries, and the youth alike paving the way for sustained growth, innovation, and competitiveness on a global scale, the government said.
The MoU marks the latest big-ticket investment in the data centre and electronics manufacturing space — two major focus points for the Union government — that has come in States with National Democratic Alliance (NDA) governments. Visakhapatnam will also host Google’s AI Hub, a data centre representing the tech giant’s largest investment in India, of ₹87,520 crore. Opposition leaders have accused the Centre of redirecting investments originally planned for States governed by non-NDA governments.
Of the ten semiconductor fabrication and OSAT plants approved under the India Semiconductor Mission, only one, Continental Device India Pvt. Ltd.’s Mohali facility, is in a State with an Opposition-led State government.
AP recently announced an MoU with Tillman Global to build a data centre campus for ₹15,000 crore.
