The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its bulletin on Sunday, November 23, said a cyclone is very likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around November 26. However, the latest forecast does not predict heavy rainfall for Andhra Pradesh.
According to the IMD, the low-pressure area over the Strait of Malacca and adjoining south Andaman Sea intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area at 5.30 a.m. on Sunday and remained over the same region till 8.30 a.m. The associated cyclonic circulation extended up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.
The system is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea on November 24. Continuing on this path, it is expected to further intensify into a cyclonic storm over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 26.
As of now, the IMD has only confirmed that the depression may strengthen into a cyclone but has not indicated which coastal States could be affected. No heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for Andhra Pradesh, and no advisories have been released for fishermen.
Based on the IMD forecast, the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) said light to moderate rainfall is likely in Prakasam, SPSR Nellore, YSR Kadapa, Tirupati, and Chittoor districts on Monday.
Meanwhile, another low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation lying over the Comorin area. This new system may develop over the Comorin region and adjoining areas of southwest Bay of Bengal and Sri Lanka around November 25, according to the IMD.
