Responding to an incident wherein a pregnant woman died allegedly owing to the negligence of a doctor, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu instructed officials to investigate the matter and take strict action against those responsible.

According to a press release, an eight-month pregnant woman from East Godavari was receiving treatment at the Kakinada Government General Hospital. While the case sheet reportedly mentioned that she was diabetic, had hypertension and was allergic to Pantoprazole, a medicine used in the treatment of acidity, a PG student allegedly administered her a ‘Pantop’ injection on November 20.

The patient suffered fits and later had a cardiac arrest, leading to her death, according to the release. A lack of supervision by the assistant professor was also blamed for the incident.

Also, at the Rajamahendravaram Government Hospital, a 55-year-old patient’s condition worsened after the hospital staff reportedly administered expired medicines.

The Chief Minister instructed senior officials to conduct a thorough investigation on the medical staff involved and take necessary action. He also directed officials concerned to provide assistance to the family of the pregnant woman.
