Dreams of nursing students and healthcare professionals aspiring to build a career in Germany moved a step closer to reality as the Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation (KVTSDC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday, November 20, with the Deutsche Fachkräfteagentur für Gesundheits- und Pflegeberufe GmbH (DeFa), paving way for the launch of a new telc (The European Language Certificates) German Language Examination Centre in Bengaluru.

Strengthening Indo-German cooperation in the healthcare sector, the new German language examination centre was inaugurated at the Karnataka German Technical Training Institute (KGTTI), Peenya. To accelerate the process, KVTSDC has already begun shortlisting candidates, primarily nurses, who will undergo structured German language training to support their professional migration pathway to Germany.

“This programme will help healthcare and nursing professionals across Karnataka meet the linguistic standards essential for employment in Germany, where B2-level German proficiency is mandatory for registered nurses,” said Dr. Sharanaprakash R. Patil, Minister for Skill Development and Medical Education.

DeFa, established by the German Federal Ministry of Health, plays a vital role in ensuring ethical, transparent, and efficient recruitment of international healthcare workers. telc exams are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), providing globally recognised certification for study, work and residence in Germany.

Bruno Carlesso, Director Global Business, telc, who signed the MoU on behalf of Germany, stated that the establishment of the KVTSDC–telc exam centre at KGTTI marks a major milestone in enabling accessible, high-quality language certification pathways for aspiring healthcare professionals from Karnataka and India.

The event was attended by German Deputy Consul General Annett Baessler, Anoop Achuthan Director India & South East Asia, DeFa, Shivakantamma Naik Chairperson, KVTSDC, R. Ragapriya and N.M. Nagaraja.
