Chikkamagaluru district administration has banned tourists from visiting hill stations on Chandradrona hill range in Chikkamagaluru taluk for four days from December 1 in view of the Datta Jayanti programme atop Bababudan Giri.

Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad have organised the Datta Jayanti programme from December 2 to 4. The district administration is expecting thousands of people from Chikkamagaluru and neighbouring districts of Karnataka for the event. The roads connecting Kaimara to the hill stations ended up with potholes during rains, and there were instances of landslips on the stretch. The administration has put in place several restrictions to avoid untoward incidents during the event.

On November 18, Deputy Commissioner C.N. Meena Nagaraj said that the tourists would not be allowed to visit the hill stations – Mullayanagiri, Seethalayyanaigir, Sri Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Swamy Dargah, Galikere and Manikya Dhara – between 6 a.m. on December 1 and 6 a.m. on December 5.

However, the ban would not apply to the local people and those who had booked homestays and resorts well in advance.
