Former Rajya Sabha member T.G. Venkatesh on Wednesday inspected the Indian Red Cross Society Blood Centre, where the construction of a new building is proposed to provide medical facilities to Thalassaemia patients.

There are nearly 1,000 Thalassaemia patients in the undivided Kurnool district, and they need mandatory blood tests and transfusion once in three months. Due to a lack of sufficient medical facilities and non-availability of blood, the patients are facing problems, some even losing their lives.

The District Red Cross Society came forward to construct a building to provide medical facilities for Thalassaemia patients and approached Mr. Venkatesh for assistance. Mr. Venkatesh on Wednesday visited the Indian Red Cross Society Blood Centre premises, which would be convenient for constructing the new building.

Red Cross Society chairperson K.G. Govind Reddy said it would be convenient for the patients to get blood tests and blood for transfusion at the same place if the building is constructed on the same premises. He said Mr. Venkatesh has been extending all possible support and cooperation to the Society and hoped it will continue.
