Vijay encourages TVK ‘virtual warriors’ to help family, friends, and others in SIR process

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay on Saturday requested his party cadre to ensure the forms being distributed as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) reached voters and urged Gen Z and first-time voters to submit ‘Form 6’ and claim their right to vote.

Alleging interference from the ruling DMK in a video released on social media, Mr. Vijay claimed that those from the ruling party were not giving the forms to the members of his party. “There are have been complaints raised by our cadre that the forms are not being given to them. I don’t have to name — the present ruling party and their collaborators — who are doing it. My dear virtual warriors, don’t take this lightly. Ensure that the forms reach everyone. The forms can also be downloaded from ECI. You can do it for your family and your neighbours and also to others who need it,” Mr. Vijay said.

He also claimed that ‘Gen Z’ kids could be denied their right to vote if they don’t act wisely. “Everybody knows that Gen Z voters are going to be a big force. They will do everything to disturb you and ensure your name is not included by hook or crook. They are giving us issues from every direction. Will they act fairly in the issue of giving us the right to vote?” he said.

Further more, Mr. Vijay sought to flag various issues related to SIR. “When I heard about it, I was shocked as well. Would you believe me if I say now that none of us in Tamil Nadu have the right to vote, including myself. I am not scaremongering, but it is the truth. Lakhs of people may end up without the right to vote. SIR is the reason,” he said.

He added: “How is SIR going to work in Tamil Nadu? In January, 6.36 crore voters were identified but none of them have the right to vote. Until the draft rolls are released, we cannot be sure about our right to vote. If our name doesn’t figure in the new draft rolls, then it is a separate process. Is it a verification or re-registration? Or a new registration of voters?”

He expressed doubts over such an elaborate process can be completed within a month. “Is it not enough to add new voters and those who have not registered to the electoral rolls? In the 2021 Assembly and 2024 Lok Sabha, how did we vote? Why do those who have voted in those elections have to register to vote?”
