In a significant demonstration of innovation in extreme terrain, the Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps has developed an in-house High Altitude Monorail System to support operations at 16,000 feet in the Kameng Himalayas of Arunachal Pradesh.

Operating in one of the most rugged and weather-affected high-altitude zones, forward posts in the region often face disrupted supply lines due to snow, landslides and unpredictable conditions.

To overcome these challenges, Gajraj Corps engineers and troops improvised and built the mono rail system entirely on site. The system enables safe and efficient transportation of operational essentials such as rations, ammunition, fuel and engineering stores across steep gradients where traditional means of transport struggle. Capable of carrying more than 300 kg in a single run, it remains functional day or night, even in adverse weather.

The improvised solution not only strengthens logistics but also offers potential for rapid casualty evacuation in areas inaccessible to helicopters.
