The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has taken an early lead in the run-up to the elections to the Kannur Corporation by announcing candidates for 42 of the total 56 wards. The list was released in the presence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) all-India vice president A.P. Abdullakutty.

BJP Kannur North district president K.K. Vinod Kumar announced the names, confirming that the NDA would field candidates in all 56 wards of the Corporation. The selection process, party leaders said, focussed on promoting women and introducing new faces to the local political scene.

Senior leader U.T. Jayanthan, sitting council member V.K. Shyju, and Ghazal singer Aparna Purushothaman feature prominently in the first list of candidates. Other prominent nominees include Archana Vandichal, Shrisuma Vinod, A. Jayalatha, Jiju Vijayan, and M.P. Ragini.
