A high-level delegation from the Maharashtra Water Resources Department visited the Polavaram Project on Tuesday (November 11, 2025) to study its major construction components, technologies, and large-scale water management infrastructure.

The ten-member team inspected several critical structures, including the spillway, diaphragm wall, coffer dams, and the hydropower project. Project DE Balakrishna, MEIL General Manager A. Gangadhar, and Deputy General Manager Murali Pammi briefed the delegation on the project’s progress, design, and execution methodologies.

The visit began with an interaction between the Maharashtra officials and senior representatives from the Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Department and Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL). Officials presented an overview of the project’s construction stages, structural innovations, and operational goals.

The team also examined the project’s scale model, recording videos and taking notes for technical reference. They showed particular interest in Polavaram’s spillway system, one of the largest in the world, capable of discharging some of the highest flood volumes globally. Detailed explanations were given on the design, fabrication, and installation of the massive radial gates and their hydraulic operating systems.

They inquired about the construction timeline, manpower deployment, and the machinery employed for large-scale civil works.

Later, the officials visited the Polavaram Hydro Power Plant area, where they were briefed on the integration of the power component with the irrigation and flood control features of the multipurpose project.

The visiting team comprised SEs Shriram Hajare and Ravindra Wankhade; EEs Paranjit Singh Juneja, Tushar Metkar, and Ganesh Bhagat; and DEs Umesh Pachapoor, Dhananjay Shinde, Anil Rathod, Ravindra Vishwakarma, and Ganesh Ingle.
