The 19th triennial conference of the General Insurance Employees’ Association (South Zone) will be held on Saturday (November 15) and Sunday (November 16) in Ernakulam. The GIEA (SZ) is an affiliate of the All India Insurance Employees’ Association (AIIEA). Industries Minister P. Rajeeve will inaugurate the event at the Women’s Association Hall in Ernakulam. The triennial conference is being held in Kerala after a gap of 21 years.

“The conference comes at a time when public sector general insurance companies are facing threats to their existence, with the Union government moving forward with its agenda of privatising public sector enterprises and allowing 100% FDI in the financial sector,” the organisation said in a press release. The conference will see the participation of over 100 delegates and observers from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. They will deliberate at length on ways to strengthen the struggle to protect general insurance companies under the public sector, the organisation said.
