Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has urged the Centre to ensure a “prompt and thorough investigation” into the deadly explosion near the Red Fort, especially given that it occurred in a high-security zone. At least eight people were killed after a high-intensity blast ripped through a slow moving car that had stopped outside the Red Fort on Monday (November 10, 2025) evening.

“In this moment of grief, our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, and we pray for the swift recovery of the injured,” Mr. Kharge said in a statement. Mr. Kharge said that those responsible for the security lapse must be held accountable. “The government must ensure a prompt and thorough investigation into this blast which happened in a high security zone that was often crowded, so that those responsible for this lapse and incident are held accountable,” he wrote in a post on X.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, described the incident as “heartbreaking and concerning.” He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

Congress general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal also expressed anguish over the incident. “The loss of many lives is especially painful, and I pray for the speedy recovery of the wounded. The entire country is united in this difficult moment,” he said, calling on the government to “speedily investigate this incident and throw further light on what has transpired.”
