The two-day celebrations of IEEE Day 2025 and IEEE North Karnataka Subsection Student Congress, SRUJANAM, facilitating multi-domain technical workshops and interactive sessions on Artificial Intelligence-powered research, patent filing, and Robotic Operating Systems, began at Sharnbasva University in Kalaburagi, Karnataka on November 9.

More than 220 student delegates from various colleges and universities across north Karnataka are participating in the two-day programme.

The event was inaugurated by Devendra Gowda, co-Chairperson, IEEE Bengaluru Section Student Activities Committee, and Abhishek Deshmukh, Chair, IEEE North Karnataka Subsection.

In his inaugural address, Devendra Gowda highlighted the advantages of IEEE membership for students in terms of access to internships, industry-linked projects, and professional networking opportunities. “IEEE is entering its 50th year, with over 21,700 new members already enrolled in Karnataka. We aim to cross the 25,000 mark by the end of this year,” he said, while assuring continued IEEE support for enhancing students’ technical and professional skills.

Abhishek Deshmukh said that the North Karnataka Subsection, in its five years of existence, has successfully conducted several flagship events. “SRUJANAM is a new initiative aimed at providing a platform for students to network, collaborate, and share knowledge,” he said.

Lakshmi Patil Maka, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (Women) and IEEE Student Branch Counsellor, outlined the various activities being taken up under IEEE Student Branches for enhancing students’ technical competency.

In his presidential remarks, Prof. V.D. Mytri, Director of Sharnbasva University, urged every engineering student to become a member of IEEE to benefit from its training programmes, internships, and project support. “IEEE has been instrumental in nurturing innovation and practical learning among students,” he added.

Asharani Patil, IEEE Coordinator, noted that IEEE Day is celebrated globally every October, and the theme for 2025 is ‘Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow’. She said that various student competitions with cash prizes were being held as part of the event.

Shivleela Patil, Chairperson, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, proposed a vote of thanks.

Sujata Mallapur (Dean – Research), Shivakumar Javalagi (Dean – Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Co-Education) and Prof. Kiran Maka (Finance Officer) were present.
