Plans are afoot to perform the ‘bhoomi puja’ for the upcoming 800 MW supercritical unit (Stage-II) at the Singareni Thermal Power Plant (STPP) in Jaipur mandal of Mancherial district soon.

The STPP has two units each with a capacity of 600 MW. The third unit would help augment power generation capacity by using ultra-supercritical technology, SCCL sources said.

Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) Chairman and Managing Director N. Balram on Sunday visited the plnt. He reviewed the preparations for the puja ceremony of the upcoming unit as part of the ambitious expansion plan.

He also visited the CO2 to Methanol conversion pilot project set up on the premises. The CMD directed the officials to commence experimental production shortly. He held a review meeting with the officials concerned on the “Neeti Binduvu – Jala Sindhuvu” ponds developed in the STPP area.

Earlier, the CMD inspected the GDK-5 opencast mine (OCP) and reviewed the coal production in Peddapalli district. He inaugurated the newly-constructed Base Workshop at the OCP and planted a few saplings on the overburden (OB) dumps, a press release said.

He made an on-the-spot assessment of the whole gamut of coal mining, including OB removal and coal transportation at the IK OCP, in the Srirampur area of Mancherial district.

He also visited the “Balaram Jaladhi”, a mini pond built under the “Neeti Binduvu – Jala Sindhuvu” initiative.
