Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar on Saturday directed officials to identify major tanks across the district for comprehensive development under the watershed management programme.

He chaired a review meeting at the Collectorate in Guntur, ahead of the two-day National Workshop on Watershed Management, scheduled for November 10 and 11. The Minister, along with Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Commissioner M. Krishna Teja, Guntur District Collector A. Thameem Ansariya, Additional Commissioner from the Union Rural Development Ministry C.P. Reddy and Watershed Division Director Y.V.K. Shanmukha Kumar, inspected the arrangements at Vengalayapalem village near Guntur city, where the second-day events of the ‘Watershed Mahotsav’ will be held.

Mr. Chandra Sekhar said hosting the national workshop in Guntur was a matter of pride and urged officials to work with dedication to ensure the district gains national recognition. He emphasised taking utmost care in every aspect of the event’s organisation.

Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Panchayat Raj Konidela Pawan Kalyan and 130 delegates from various States are expected to attend the event. The inaugural session will take place in Guntur city, followed by field demonstrations at Vengalayapalem.
