The State government will offer 300 acres of land to Japanese enterprises to set up various industries, said Selva Kumar, Principal Secretary, Commerce & Industries Department, here on Friday.

He said the 300 acres of land would be made available in two different areas: The ITIR (Information Technology Investment Region) Park, near Devanahalli, and on the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC) which comprises Tumakuru Industrial Township.

Mr. Kumar was speaking at an India–Japan Business Summit (IJBS) organised by the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) here.

“We are offering land to Japanese firms to set up industrial townships and this demonstrates our readiness to support bilateral growth in the future,” he added.

In September 2025, a high-level delegation from the Government of Karnataka visited Japan to further bilateral opportunities. “Multiple Japanese firms have shown interest to come to Karnataka and set up their businesses here,’’ Mr. Kumar said.

According to him, in 2023-24, bilateral trade stood at $32.85 billion, with India exporting over $5 billion in sectors such as chemicals, vehicles and engineering goods.

He said, Japan was among the top five sources of FDI for India and Japanese firms are long-term investors in our infrastructure, clean energy and advanced manufacturing sectors.

He pointed out that Karnataka is home to over 500 Japanese business establishments, Toyota, Hitachi, Panasonic, Yamaha and NIDEC being some of them.

Speaking on the occasion, Nakane Tsutomu, Consul General of Japan in Bengaluru, said, “Karnataka, with its thriving IT and manufacturing sectors, continues to attract leading Japanese companies, now expanding even into Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.”
