The Kerala Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force have launched a Statewide drive ‘Operation Rakshitha’ to enhance passenger safety on trains. The initiative comes in the wake of a recent incident in which a young woman was assaulted and booted off a moving train.

As many as 72 cases have been registered for various violations in connection with the special drive. The operation aims to ensure the safety and security of all passengers, especially women.

The inspections were conducted under the supervision of Railway Police Superintendent K.S. Shahansha. Special checks were carried out on trains as well as in and around railway stations over the past several days.

As part of the operation, breathalyser tests were conducted at various stations to identify passengers travelling under the influence of alcohol. Continuous monitoring through CCTVs and inspections involving bomb squads and K9 units are also being carried out.
