Kozhikode has to ramp up its infrastructure base to tap into its potential to rise as a top tier-two city and a fast-growing IT hub of the country, Susanth Kurunthil, chief executive officer of Cyberpark and Infopark, has said.

Bringing Kozhikode to the forefront requires strengthening its infrastructure in not just Information Technology, but in other verticals as well including the social sector, Mr. Kurunthil said. He was addressing the ‘Vision 2030’ seminar at the Calicut Forum for Information Technology (CAFIT).

“With world-class educational institutions such as IIMK and NIT-C, Kozhikode has no dearth of talent. We need to just take steps to retain this talent,” he said.

Mr. Kurunthil pointed out that the State government had been taking upfront initiatives, including policy formulation, for the rapid development of the IT sector. “We must utilise these opportunities at the earliest,” he said, calling for inclusion of the city’s well-off public for the overall development of the city.

Industries in the city should consider shifting from IT services to IT products, Mr. Kurunthil said.

CII (North) vice chair Anil Balan moderated the seminar. Kerala Startup Mission senior tech fellow Rony K. Roy, UL Cyberpark chief operating officer Kishor Kumar T.K., CAFIT president Rifath Rahman, and founder-president Duleep Sahadevan spoke.
