The Kerala High Court has initiated contempt proceedings and imposed a fine of ₹3 lakh on a person who was charged with filing writ petitions by using the forged signature of his estranged wife.

He had allegedly filed a writ petition in the name of his estranged wife, challenging a show-cause notice issued to him by the Consulate General of India, Dubai. This was done for allegedly suppressing a criminal case that was pending against him for renewing his passport. He filed the petition after his initial plea was dismissed by a single judge.

The matter came to light after his estranged wife complained to the police that the petitions were filed without her consent or knowledge. A Division Bench of the High Court further issued a direction preventing him from leaving India until the contempt proceedings were over.
