DCP (North) S. Rashmi Perumal with officers from the zonal police stations during a media briefing in Hyderabad on Saturday.

In a series of operations over the past fortnight, the Hyderabad City Police’s North Zone teams detected several cases of theft, robbery, chain snatching and mobile phone snatching, arresting multiple accused, including habitual offenders, and recovered stolen property.

At Market Police Station, officers cracked a phone snatching case within 12 hours of the offence on October 7. The accused, identified as Manchala Janardhan Sirish, 24, an e-commerce delivery boy from Parsigutta, and Cheraka Goutham Kumar, 30, an electrician from Kummariguda, were remanded the same day. Police recovered a stolen mobile phone.

In another case, Begumpet police arrested two men for chain snatching in Prakash Nagar, on October 26. The accused, Jonnalagadda Ashok, 27, and Gantenapalli Ramanayya, 27, both masons from Guntur district, snatched a gold chain weighing 3.7 tolas from a woman. A passer-by alerted police through Dial 100, leading to the duo’s immediate arrest and recovery of the ornament worth about ₹3 lakh.

At Mahankali Police Station, officers nabbed two men within 90 minutes of an armed robbery against an auto driver near Audaiah X Road on October 27. The accused, identified as Syed Zubair Ali, 22, and Mohammed Pasha, 20, both from old city, were caught near Moghalpura. Police recovered the stolen autorickshaw (TG 11 T 1715), a mobile phone, ₹9,500 cash, and a knife. The duo, with a long record of robberies and thefts across Nagole, Kachiguda, and Afzalgunj, was remanded to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, Bowenpally police arrested a notorious couple involved in a house burglary reported on October 8. The accused, Jangalam Chandan alias Chandu, 39, and his wife Laxmi, 35, both from Yapral, were caught after police analysed footage from 350 CCTV cameras. Stolen property including 8 tolas of gold, an idol, and ₹40,000 in cash was recovered along with a bike used in the crime. Both have extensive criminal histories spanning over twenty cases of housebreaking and theft in Hyderabad and Rachakonda.

In another Bowenpally case, police booked a juvenile addict for stealing a woman’s handbag at a bus stop on October 26. The stolen items included a gold chain, ring, watch, mobile phone, and cash. The minor is already linked to a previous theft case under Balanagar police limits.

On October 19, Bowenpally police arrested Masood Khan, 49, a private employee from Ferozguda, for impersonating a police officer. He stopped two men on a bike and collected ₹2,000 as penalty for not wearing a helmet, before fleeing. The victims later realised the fraud and reported the matter, leading to his arrest nine days later.

DCP (North) S. Rashmi Perumal said the coordinated efforts of the zone’s officers had led to quick detection and recovery in most cases. She urged citizens to remain vigilant while travelling with valuables, ensure proper home security when away, and report any suspicious activity immediately via Dial 100.
