Chandrasekhar, and Registrar V. Radhika Reddy cut a cake to mark the 39th anniversary celebrations of NTR University of Health Sciences in Vijayawada on Saturday.

Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) Chairman K. Madhu Murthy said that with the advancement of modern technology, medical services have now reached even remote villages.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the 39th Foundation Day celebrations of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (Dr. NTRUHS) held on the university premises on Saturday (November 1).
Mr. Madhu Murthy noted that Dr. NTRUHS is the first university in the country dedicated exclusively to health education and that the establishment of medical colleges in every district of the State has made healthcare more accessible to the common people.
He emphasised the need to move forward by effectively utilising technological innovations in the medical field. The university was established with the vision of providing quality and accessible education to all, he added. Mr. Madhu Murthy further said that former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao holds the distinction of founding the country’s first university devoted solely to medical education. With continued technological progress, healthcare will become even more widely available in the years to come, he added.
Director of Medical Education (DME) G. Raghunandan said that the increase in undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats in the State is a welcome development.
University Vice-Chancellor P. Chandrasekhar said that the university, inaugurated on November 1, 1986, has now completed 39 years since its establishment. He added that the 40th anniversary would be celebrated on a grand scale next year.
At present, 554 colleges are affiliated with the university, he said. The university is encouraging research activities and allocating a separate budget for them. It is also introducing an M.Phil. programme in Psychology, he added. Dr. Chandrasekhar expressed gratitude to the State government and the Governor for allocating land for the new campus at Amaravati. He said the university also plans to establish emergency medicine departments in all medical colleges. As part of the celebrations, a new air-conditioned lounge was inaugurated for former university employees in recognition of their service.
