The State government appointed cyclone Montha’s special officer, Ajay Jain, who is the Special Chief Secretary of the State, has on Monday (October 27, 2025) reviewed Visakhapatnam’s cyclone preparedness with district officials at the Collectorate.

Mr. Jain is the same officer who had accompanied the then Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu when the severe cyclonic storm Hudhud had made its landfall over the city in October 2014.

Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Jain said, “We are taking all possible preparedness measures with the experiences we have faced during Cyclone Hudhud in October 2014. We hope that there will be no loss due to this cyclone Montha as it is likely to cross near Kakinada, and also the effective preparedness of the State government under the guidance of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.”

Mr. Jain later inquired about the field conditions of the cyclone affected areas. He directed the officials to start evacuating the people from the hilly areas. He also directed the revenue personnel patrolling the coastal areas and also suggested them the measures to prevent visitors from entering the beach areas.

He also spoke about the steps taken on the provision of the essential commodities such as water, milk, fuel, and also directed the officials to keep ready as many earth movers, cutting machines, generators, chain saws and emergency lights as possible and to provide facilities in temporary shelters.

“We have told the officials to stock up an adequate quantity of food and water for supply to shelter homes and also to the general public if required,” he said.
