The cyber crime police on Monday (September 8, 2025) registered an FIR against a Facebook account holder for allegedly disregarding Mahatma Gandhi in his post on Teachers’ Day.

Based on a complaint by staff of the social media monitoring cell, the police have booked the accused who runs the account “Akhanda Hindustan”, charging him under Section 66(C) (identity theft) of the IT Act and also under Section 354 (coerced or manipulated into performing actions) of BNS for further investigation. The former seeks to penalise any person who fraudulently or dishonestly uses another person’s electronic signature, password, or other unique identification feature.

While monitoring social media, the staff came across the post which was uploaded on September 5, 2025. The post allegedly wished all teachers on Teachers’ Day, “except those who taught us Mahatama Gandhi got us freedom”.

This, according to the complaint, is derogatory and can spread fake news and propaganda to create disturbance in the society. The post was also liked and shared by many people, which is also part of the probe .
