The police on Tuesday (October 21, 2025) arrested a woman and her second husband for allegedly torturing her two minor children, in Penamaluru mandal of Krishna district.

The accused woman identified as J. Jyothirmayee, was staying with her second husband M. Mahesh, and her children at Karmika Nagar in Tadigadapa, the officials said. “We received a call from the locals alleging that the couple was beating the children. The team led by District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) B. Kishore and Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) social worker G. Prema Latha rushed to the scene and rescued a girl (seven) and boy (five),” said Krishna district Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Project Director M.N. Rani.

The DCPO said that wounds were found on the children’s hands, legs, and other body parts. They were sent to the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Vijayawada for medical examination.

Gannavaram Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ch. Srinivas Rao said the Penamaluru police registered a case under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and other charges against the couple.

“The children were produced before the Krishna District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and the accused were arrested,” the DSP told The Hindu on Tuesday.

“The condition of the children is out of danger. We will record their statements and they will be sent to the Child Care Institution (CCI) on Wednesday for protection,” Ms. Prema Latha said.
