Nine persons were killed and three others severely injured when a State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus jumped a median and collided with two SUVs at Ezhuthur near Thittakudi on Wednesday (December 24, 2025) night.

The deceased, all of whom were occupants of the two cars, were being identified, the police said.

The bus was proceeding to Chennai from Tiruchi when one of its front tyres burst. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which jumped the median and collided with the two SUVs.

On being alerted, the Ramanatham police rushed to the spot. The bodies were retrieved and sent for a post-mortem.

The accident caused major traffic disruption on the Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway.
