A 72-feet-long national flag was installed at the Kannur Military Station under the joint initiative of the Defence Security Corps (DSC) Centre, Kannur, DSC Records Office, and Station Cell, Kannur.

Lieutenant General Ajay Ramdev, Director-General, Heritage Integrated Training, hoisted the national flag at the function. Speaking on the occasion, he said the flag would stand as a symbol of the nation’s identity, discipline, and unity.

Highlighting the historical significance of the area, he noted that the Kannur Cantonment has a unique heritage dating back to the Portuguese, Dutch and British periods. At present, the presence of the Indian Army continues to ensure the security and the strength of the region, he said.

He also recalled the voluntary services rendered by the Defence Security Corps and the Territorial Army during natural disasters in Kerala, noting that their contribution deserved special mention. The people of Kannur and the local administration have always extended strong support to the armed forces, he said.

The officer said the installation of the flag would serve as an inspiration for the younger generation to develop patriotism and civic responsibility.

Lieutenant General Vinod Nayanar, Major General Ashim Kohli (Retd.), CEO of the Flag Foundation of India, and representatives of the police, Navy, judiciary, and civic administration attended the event.
