Bengaluru traffic police have booked 59 school vehicle drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol. They were caught during a special early morning drive conducted across Bengaluru on March 27, raising serious concerns about student safety.

The special drive, carried out between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., specifically targeted school vehicle drivers and water tanker operators. According to official data, a total of 73 cases were registered, including 59 against school vehicle drivers and 14 against water tanker drivers.

Police officials said the violations pose a grave risk to children and other motorists on the road. “Drunk driving by school vehicle drivers is extremely dangerous, as it directly endangers the lives of students,” an official explained.

All drivers who tested positive for alcohol have been booked under relevant provisions of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Authorities informed that the driving licences (DLs) of the offenders will be forwarded to the respective Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) for suspension.

Traffic police stated that such special drives will continue in the coming days to ensure stricter enforcement.
