4 die in accident near Tirthahalli in head-on collision in Karnataka

Four members of a family died and three suffered injuries in a head-on collision between a car and a KSRTC bus near Bharathipura Cross in Tirthahalli taluk of Shivamogga district in Karnataka on January 13 night.

Seven members of a family, natives of Sringeri in Chikkamagaluru, were returning home after attending a marriage at Channagiri in Davanagere district when they met with the accident.

The injured have been identified as Fathima, 70, her grandchildren Rihan, 15, Rahil, 9, and Ayan, 12. Riyaz, who was driving the car, Zareena, and another child suffered injuries in the incident.

According to the police, Riyaz overtook another vehicle on a curve without noticing the oncoming KSRTC bus, leading to the accident around 9.30 p.m.

Tirthahalli police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to McGann Hospital in Shivamogga. While three persons died on the spot, Ayan, who was severely injured, succumbed to injuries on January 14 morning.

Tirthahalli Police have registered a case.

Shivamogga district Additional SP A.G. Caripappa visited the accident spot on January 14 along with other police officers.
