HYDERABAD

The 359th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh was celebrated with religious fervour and devotion in Secunderabad, with thousands of Sikh devotees and people from other faiths participating in the concluding ceremonies on Sunday.

The main programme was organised under the aegis of the Prabhandak Committee of Gurdwara Saheb Secunderabad, where a Vishaal Diwan was held at Tivoli Gardens. Devotees gathered in large numbers to offer prayers to the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, marking the birth anniversary of the tenth Sikh Guru and founder of the Khalsa Panth.

The Prabhandak Committee president Baldev Singh Bagga, general secretary Jagmohan Singh and secretary Harpreet Singh Gulati said the congregation began at 10.30 a.m. and continued till 3.30 p.m. The programme featured recitation of Gurbani, kirtans and kathas by reputed ragi jathas.

Ragi jathas including Bhai Sarabjit Singh from Patna Sahib, Giani Jaswinder Singh, former head granthi of Sri Darbar Sahib in Amritsar, Giani Jagdev Singh, Bhai Varjinder Singh and others rendered shabad kirtans highlighting the teachings of Guru Gobind Singh. The speakers recalled the Guru’s role in protecting the weak and promoting values of courage, equality and communal harmony.

The preachers also spoke about the relevance of the Sikh Gurus’ teachings in the present times, urging devotees to follow the path of peace, brotherhood and national integration.

After the congregation, Guru Ka Langar was served to all devotees. Participants sat together in rows, reflecting the spirit of equality, discipline and collective responsibility that forms a core part of Sikh tradition.
