35 injured as bus, lorry collide in Aluva

Nearly 35 persons were injured, four of them seriously, after a private bus collided with a lorry at Edathala near Aluva on Monday (May 11, 2026) at around 2.54 p.m.

The bus was heading from Aluva to Pookkattupady and the lorry was travelling in the opposite direction when they reportedly collided on a narrow road. Of the injured, 31 were rushed to Rajagiri Hospital and four to Carmel Hospital, Aluva.

Aishwarya Mani, 28, of Kodancherry in Kozhikode, was put on ventilator support with serious head, facial and leg injuries. Jesma, 24, of Pazhanganad, underwent emergency surgery for leg and back injuries. Eliamma, 86, was admitted to the surgical ICU with chest injuries and fractured ribs. Bus driver Prasad, 39, of Pallikkara, suffered head and hand injuries.

The bus front was reduced to rubble. Fire and rescue services used a crane to clear the road and restore traffic. MLA Anwar Sadat and Edathala panchayat president A.A. Mahin were among those who rushed to the spot.
