28 injured as KSRTC Swift bus rams under-construction underpass at Cherthala in Kerala’s Alappuzha

At least 28 people sustained injuries when a KSRTC-SWIFT superfast bus rammed an under-construction national highway underpass at Cherthala in Alappuzha district of Kerala in the early hours of Tuesday (September 16, 2025).

Among the injured, 11 are reported to be in serious condition.

The injured have been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Alappuzha and Cherthala Taluk Hospital.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel from the Cherthala station cut open the bus to rescue the driver and the conductor. Both the driver and the conductor, identified as Sreeraj and Sujith, sustained serious injuries.

The accident occurred around 4.30 a.m. The bus was heading towards Thiruvananthapuram from Coimbatore.
