A 24-year-old woman died after inhaling toxic carbon monoxide (CO) gas leaking from a gas geyser while she was taking a bath.

The incident took place at Thotadaguddadahalli in the Madanayakanahalli police station limits on November 29.

The deceased, Bhumika, a homemaker and a native of Hassan, married Krishnamurthy four months ago. The couple had moved into a rented house only 15 days prior to the incident.

According to the police, Bhumika’s husband, who works at a private firm in Peenya, left for work on Friday morning. Bhumika was believed to have switched on the gas geyser before entering the bathroom, where she reportedly succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a leakage.

When Krishnamurthy returned home in the evening, he grew suspicious after she failed to respond to repeated knocking and phone calls. With the help of neighbours, the door was forced open, and Bhumika was found lying unconscious in the bathroom. She was declared dead on the spot.

The Madanayakanahalli police have registered a case of unnatural death.
