The Hyderabad City Traffic Police continued its crackdown on traffic violations, with 212 offenders facing trial in drunk driving cases from Abids, Chikkadapally, Saifabad, and Gandhinagar traffic police limits. The hearing was held on October 18, at the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Nampally.

According to the Traffic Assistant Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, 187 of the accused were fined ₹3,100 each, while 25 others were sentenced to imprisonment and fined a total of ₹99,900. The court imposed a cumulative penalty of ₹6,79,600 in these cases.

In addition, 147 motorists were penalised for using mobile phones while driving, with each fined ₹1,100, bringing the total to ₹1,61,700. Seven minors caught driving vehicles were also fined ₹2,100 each, amounting to ₹14,700.

The Traffic department said the ongoing enforcement is part of efforts to curb accidents caused by reckless driving and to raise public awareness about the importance of road safety and compliance with traffic laws.
