2027 U.P. election decisive for saving democracy, says SP chief Akhilesh

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly election in 2027 will prove to be a decisive fight to save democracy, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said on Monday (November 10, 2025), adding the PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) coalition had become a major challenge for the ruling dispensation.

“It was the Samajwadi Party that had stopped the BJP’s growth in Uttar Pradesh. Now, we have the goal of forming a socialist government in 2027. The 2027 election will prove to be decisive to save democracy,” said Mr. Yadav, addressing a press conference in Lucknow. 

The SP president, who addressed a meeting of district and city presidents of the party at its State headquarters in Lucknow, said that the Special Intensive Revision exercise has to be paid full attention. “Do not allow deletion of names of your voters, fill up the forms of those who want to be added. The BJP workers have colluded with the administration to remove the votes of the supporters of the Samajwadi Party ahead of the teacher-graduate MLC elections,” added the SP president. 

Mr. Yadav added, “All sections of the society are with the SP. The BJP is playing with the sentiments of the people and every section understood the game plan of the ruling party. The SP pushed the demand for a caste-based census and now, it is supported by other parties. This caste census will give rights and respect to all the Backward castes, Dalits and the underprivileged. They will have a stake in development.” 

The SP leader called for broader unity of democratic and secular forces for saving democratic values. “The situation is dangerous in the State. From Saharanpur to Sonbhadra-Mirzapur, illegal mining is being done in the entire State. There is no rule of law. We need a broader coalition of democratic and secular forces for saving democratic values and Constitution,” said Mr. Yadav.
