A total of 26,412 elderly and differently abled voters in Assam have been approved for home voting.

According to a statement issued by the Joint State Electoral Officer on Tuesday (March 31, 2026), 19,774 voters who opted to vote from home are aged 85 years or above. A similar option has been exercised by 6,638 persons with disabilities (PwDs).

The 85 plus and the PwDs approved for home voting constitute 19.32% and 3.23% of the eligible voters in the respective categories, the statement said.

The final list published on January 22, after the Special Revision of electoral rolls, said Assam has almost 2.5 crore voters.

“The district authorities had made arrangements to implement the Election Commission of India’s home voting initiative for senior citizens above 85 years of age and the PwDs,” the officer said.

He said the home voting process has begun and is scheduled to be completed by April 5, four days ahead of polling on April 9. “The polling team will make a second attempt if a voter is not available during the first visit,” the officer said.
