176 kg of ganja seized in Madurai; one arrested

The Madurai Narcotics Intelligence Bureau CID unit seized 176 kg of dry ganja and arrested one person in Madurai on Monday (September 22, 2025).

Acting on a tip, a team of officials, led by Inspector of Police R. Rajangam, intercepted a truck near Chittampatti tollgate.

While checking the vehicle, the police found 176 kg of dry ganja that was being smuggled from Andhra Pradesh. The police also seized the container lorry bearing a Karnataka registration number.

The lorry driver, S. Maruthupandi, 39, from Adipatti village in Aruppukottai Taluk, Virudhunagar district, was arrested.

Preliminary investigation revealed that he had trafficked the seized dry ganja from Andhra Pradesh. A case has been registered under under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(C), 25, and 29(1) of the NDPS Act.

The driver was remanded to judicial custody. Intensive efforts are being taken to apprehend the other accused involved in the crime.
