It was a smooth start to SSLC examination at 61 centres across Yadgir district on Wednesday with 97.03% of students appearing for the first language paper.

According to Deputy Director of Public Instructions Channabasappa Mudhol, out of the 16,306 enrolled students, 15,821 students (97.03%) wrote the first language paper and 485 students remained absent.

The Education Department has set up 61 examination centres, of which 22 are in Yadgir, followed by 21 in Shahapur and 18 in Shorapur and the examination is being held under surveillance through closed-circuit television cameras.

Of the enrolled 16,306 students, 5,943 were supposed to appear in Yadgir and of them, 5,810 (97.76%) appeared for the exam, while 133 remained absent.

In Shahapur, a total of 5,210 students were enrolled, of whom 5,068 (97.27%) appeared for the exam, while 142 remained absent.

In Shorapur, a total of 5,153 were supposed to appear for the exam and of them, 4,943 (95.92%) appeared for it, while 210 remained absent.

In a message on Tuesday, Minister for Small Scale Industries and Yadgir district in-charge Sharanabasappa Darshanapur appealed to all students to face the examination with confidence.

At examination centres, the officials and staff of the School Education Department showered flower petals on students and wished them with chocolates.

“The Education Department has provided the basic amenities, including drinking water and toilet facilities, at the examination centres,” Mr. Mudhol said.

He said that GESCOM staff cleared fallen electricity poles due to heavy wind late on Tuesday night and ensured immediate electricity supply to examination centres to establish CCTV camera coverage.

Meanwhile, the Health and Family Welfare Department deployed nurses to each examination centre to attend to health emergencies, if any. ASHAs are also accompanying nurses.
