Fourteen two-wheelers parked along the National Highway service road were damaged when a lorry reportedly went out of control and rammed into them near the underpass at Eriyal town around 5 a.m. on Sunday (September 21).

The lorry, which was travelling from Mangaluru to Kasaragod, also brought down several electric poles before coming to a halt. Police suspect the driver may have dozed off at the wheel, leading to the mishap. The damaged vehicles belonged to migrant workers residing in a nearby rented building. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as no one was present in the area at the time.

Officials said a major tragedy was narrowly avoided, as the spot usually witnesses heavy pedestrian movement later in the morning, especially with people heading to church.
