The East City Corporation has launched a crackdown on paying guest (PG) accommodations operating in Bengaluru without valid trade licence and violating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

A team of officials inspected several places across residential areas and found 14 PG accommodations operating commercial activities in violation of zoning rules and failing to comply with conditions prescribed under the GBA Act, 2024. These 14 PGs were sealed.

East Zone Commissioner D.S. Ramesh said that health officials have been directed to take stringent action against illegal establishments and simultaneously conduct a special drive to streamline the issuance of trade licences.

Further, to promote transparent and citizen-friendly services, the East Zone conducted a special trade licence campaign from November 10 to 15 across its 17 ward offices.

During the drive, 466 business owners paid a combined fee of ₹25.52 lakh under the Single Window System and received their trade licence on the same day, without any involvement of intermediaries, according to the East City Corporation Commissioner.

The corporation has introduced a mechanism to issue a trade licence on the day of application, provided applicants submit key documents, such as a commercial rental agreement and electricity bill. Special camps are being organised in commercial areas to further expedite the process.
